Current Volunteer Opportunities

Do you want to make a difference in the community? Are you looking for a volunteer position?
The achievements of Hospice Kingston are made possible by the volunteers who share their time and talents with the organization. Volunteers make a difference every day to the community we serve and the future we are building together, and many volunteers report that their volunteer role is a meaningful part of their own lives.
In-home Hospice Care: volunteers provide compassionate care and support to clients, and provide respite support for their caregivers and families. Volunteers spend a few hours a week with a client, providing companionship and comfort.
Grief and Bereavement Support: volunteers comfort and support family, caregivers and friends through the challenge and stress of anticipating or experiencing the death of someone close to them. Grief and Bereavement Support volunteers offer one-on-one support to clients and families in a caring, compassionate and confidential environment. They also facilitate a 7-week bereavement support group program twice a year.

Special Events: volunteers assist with the planning, coordination and day-of activities of annual events. Volunteers are needed for the following events:

Hospicefest (formerly Hospice Chilifest): Saturday, September 23, 2017

Bring the family and enjoy an afternoon sampling local chili, bread and pies all donated by the best of the best in our area! Take in local music, activities for the kids and enjoy the outdoor venue of City Park. New in 2017, we are introducing for the first time, a craft beer sampling area. Volunteers help with set-up of tents and tables for participating restaurants and breweries, admissions bracelets sales at the entrances, ballot collections for tasting contests, event photography, information table management, and take-down of tents and tables after the event. Commitment is 3-4 hour shifts from 8 am to 3 pm.

Iron Mountain Community Shred-A-Thon: Saturday, September 30, 2017

The Iron Mountain Community Shred-A-Thon for Hospice Kingston, United Way KFLA and Easter Seals on Saturday, September 30. Iron Mountain mobile shred units will be stationed at the northwest parking lot of the Cataraqui Town Centre, with document shredding services for $5/box, from 10 am to 2 pm. Volunteers act as greeters and assist at the payment table, and must be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to lift up to 20 lbs. Commitment is 3-4 hour shifts from 9 am to 3 pm.

What do you get when you put together locally donated gorgeous and unique handbags, purses, clutches at all price points, with delicious hors d’oeuvres and a fabulous Auctionista? Handbags for Hospice! Join us for this first annual event in support of Hospice Kingston’s services. Volunteers sit on the Handbags for Hospice committee to plan and coordinate event logistics, identify and secure sponsorships and handbag donations, assist with event promotion and communications. Commitment and time varies based on committee role.
